“Peace be with you, Shalom.” Jesus said this when he appeared to the apostles after His resurrection. The apostles were gathered together in the upper room when Jesus appeared to them. What did Jesus mean when he said this? Shalom means a deeper blessing of inner peace, a joy within a relationship, with God and Jesus and others. The Jewish meaning of shalom refers to an inward sense of completeness or wholeness. In the Old Testament, Prophets were looking for a king to save them. When Jesus was born He was called Prince of Peace. He restored us by dying on the cross and bringing us to a completeness to share with him in heaven for all eternity.
At the time of Jesus’ death the apostles were broken down and started falling apart without Jesus there with them. When Jesus died, the apostles were left confused and their inner peace was missing. We see why after Jesus appeared to the apostles and greeted them with Shalom, they were restored. Jesus had reassured them enough for them to be sent out into the community to share all their Shalom has many parts that are put together just like a puzzle to make things whole. The meaning of this word can make relationships complete by words and actions.
